American superstar Bette Midler is set to perform at King Charles’ Coronation concert next month.
The Coronation of Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
There will be plenty of celebration over the course of the historic weekend, including a special Coronation Concert which will be staged and performed at Windsor Castle in front of 10,000 spectators on Sunday, May 7.
It has been reported that organisers have struggled to land talent for the event and have enlisted the help of former Strictly Come Dancing booker Charlotte Oates to drum up interest.Bette Midler will fly across the Atlantic for the performance (
The experience TV executive has also worked across entertainment shows such as Britain’s Got Talent, The Voice, and The X Factor.
The signature of Midler has been deemed a real coup for royal organisers as she will take to the stage alongside our huge acts such as Lionel Ritchie and Take That.
A source told The Sun : “Although booking performers hasn’t been easy, due to busy schedules and the last minute nature of the gig, bosses are quietly confident that that a very special event is coming together.
“Landing a Hollywood star like Bette is a real coup and she will add real old school glamour to the line-up.
“Bette is delighted to be taking part, she thinks it’s an honor. Organizers are pulling out all the stops to give people a real spectacle, there’ll be something for everyone.”
The four-time Grammy Award winner, 77, has performed in the Royal Variety Performance on two previous occasions in 2009 and 2014 and is believed to be a huge fan of the monarchy.
The King has broken centuries of royal tradition to invite 850 local heroes to his People’s Coronation.
From fundraisers to firefighters and carers to community workers, Britain’s local heroes are to play a key role in the event.The Coronation Concert will take place on Sunday, May 7 (
Charles will do away with centuries of tradition by inviting 850 ordinary people with extraordinary stories in place of law-makers and peers to celebrate the start of his reign.
And among them will be Max Woosey, 13, who camped in his garden for three years to rake in more than £600,000 for a local hospice.
Pride of Britain and BEM winner Max, from Braunton, Devon, said: “It’s incredible to be invited. It’s an honour to be able to go to the Coronation.” Max will be joined by his father Mark at the ceremony.
Invitations have also been sent to more than 450 British Empire Medal recipients in recognition of their selfless contributions to society. Many were instrumental in providing services and support during lockdowns.
