Bette Midler May Never Sing Again?
By Rob Shuter
March 6, 2026

Bette Midler is watching the entertainment world from a distance as sources say the “Wind Beneath My Wings” legend may never sing in public again.
Insiders tell Straight Shuter that Bette, 80, discreetly declined a jaw-dropping seven-figure offer — north of $1 million per show — to mount a limited farewell tour.
“They waved an enormous check,” one insider says. “But Bette isn’t interested in chasing the past. That chapter was magical — and she knows it.”
With Grammys, Tonys, Emmys, blockbuster films, and decades of sold-out shows under her belt, the Beaches star has nothing left to prove — and no desire to squeeze out one more encore for nostalgia’s sake, sources say.
“Very few stars know when to exit,” a longtime associate tells Straight Shuter. “Bette does. She’d rather leave people wanting more than risk diminishing what she built.”
And the money? Not a factor.
“She doesn’t need the cash. She doesn’t need the applause,” another source adds. “She’s completely secure in her legacy.”
Bette has not officially announced any sort of retirement — but spies admit the unthinkable may be true.
“She might never sing publicly again,” the source says quietly. “And she’s perfectly at peace with that.”

I love her. That’s our girl. Couldn’t be happier for her. I just hope we have some never before released material when she is leaves this crazy world….
This is for “Bette may never sing publicly again”: if you were listening and felt the energy she said goodbye in Vegas. My heart and soul immediately knew she was done and ready to live her life not continue her life for us. She gave us years of unbelievable show and fabulous songs, BROADWAY, movies and interviews. She probably won’t return but left our hearts full and blessed with her persona of vivacious, spunky Bette. We have to respect that it’s her turn to do her life with family and friend, doggies and peace. We love you Bette, enjoy and don’t worry there are many of us who will never stop enjoying and cherishing the entertainment you have given!!!!!
Yeah, I got that feeling on her last tour during Divine Intervention. It falls in line with what she’s always said. She left us plenty to enjoy!
well, I’ve always told you I would trade Vegas for a small tour and that it would be her last and my first seeing her LOL. And that’s exactly what I got! LOL I still can’t believe I was front row in one of her last shows ever. I cried liked a baby for so many reasons, but the main one was that we all felt it was her farewell tour. Bette’s shows have always been all about feeling. And we all felt all the energy that honest and meaningful art can do to human beings. It’s been over ten years and I remember everything as if it was yesterday. Art makes like more bearable …
Xoxo
One more record, please!
I know, right?
