Mister D: I’m off to work, but I got Nigel’s permission to run his recap raw for you all before I hightailed it out of here. Hats off to Nigel for being so quick about it. Hope you enjoy. If anybody else went and wants to share their story, send them in. And here’s Nigel!:
Hi
Well it all worked out!
After a very chilly 3 hour wait in the cold with some very nice
Bootlegbetty fans we made our way into the Parkinson TV Studios.Quickly working out the stage set up we headed towards the side of the
set which was obviously set up for singing! We sat through Sharon Stone and actor Stephen Fry before Bette was
introduced. She didn’t look good she looked great! – I think it was the outfit from
the New Orleans benefit (Navy blue pin-striped suit)She was last on and the applause was so prolonged that the floor manager
had to wave his hands frantically to get everyone to stop! She started off by singing “I’m a Woman” which for some reason she was
unhappy with and so we got to hear her do it again which was a real
bonus. She did and impression of Madonna, which amounted to a few side to side
stretching excercises! The interview was really good, there was an audible gasp when the fact
that she was 60 was mentioned as she does look good! – “Better than
Barry Manilow” she informed us!She apologised for not visiting the UK for 28 years but from the tone of
the conversation I don’t think she has any plans to correct this which
was a little disappointing. She was encouraged by Stephen Fry to tell the joke form “Live at Last” –
I was in bed with my boyfriend Ernie…” but she really didn’t want to
go down that route so she spoke about Sophie Tucker and Stephen Fry told
the joke! – She told him he could ” keep it as I don’t want it any
more!”When the interview was done we were told that Bette was going to look at
her singing performance and if she wasn’t happy with it would do it
again – she wasn’t happy but were as we got a third version of “I’m a
Woman” – she thanked everyone for waiting and was gone.A great afternoon even after waiting 28 years!
Warm regards
Nigel
Thanks Mate,
