Disney’s Hocus Pocus, released in July 1993, initially struggled at the box office, with its summer release not drawing the anticipated crowds. Despite its rocky start, the film has since become one of Disney’s most beloved Halloween movies.

Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, the movie tells the story of three witches resurrected in modern-day Salem. Over the years, Hocus Pocus has transformed into a Halloween staple, enjoyed by families worldwide as a fun, not-too-scary tradition.
The upcoming book Witches Run Amok delves into the film’s surprising journey from a box office disappointment to a cultural phenomenon. Through interviews with the cast and creative team, the book explores how Hocus Pocus has managed to bridge generational gaps, becoming a nostalgic favorite for both older and younger audiences.
