Bette Midler on the Graham Norton Show displaying my Delores Doll

My mom had done this before and she had also gone to awards shows and met many famous people. She once lectured Spike Lee on something, so I’m glad I was never there. Anybody who knows my mom will tell you she has no fear. She also went to Chris Brown’s first movie, when he was just starting to rise. She made such an impression on him, he came over at the after party and asked her to dance with him. Little did he know, my mom loves to dance, ham it up, and take over the whole floor. Bette Tweets: Jean Stapleton

Hollywood Life Jean Stapleton Dies: Bette Midler & More React To Actress’ Death Sat, June 1, 2013 6:35pm EDT by Andrew Gruttadar tn-500_bettewm10105128 The actress who played Edith Bunker on the iconic series ‘All in the Family’ clearly had a huge impact on the entertainment world. As news broke that she had passed away on May 31, actresses and other stars took to Twitter to mourn her death. As Edith Bunker, Jean Stapleton turned in one of the defining performances of a housewife on television. Her natural wit and sweetness played perfectly with Carroll O’Connor’s Archie Bunker, who was churlish and angry to the point of being foolish. Only Jean’s acting could make Archie’s nickname for Edith, “dingbat,” seem endearing. As her family announced that Jean had passed away from natural causes at the age of 90 on May 31, the iconic actress’ effect on the entertainment world only became clearer — celebrities almost immediately rushed to Twitter to get their thoughts out in remembrance of Jean. Jean Stapleton Dies At 90: Celebs React On Twitter Jean’s impact was unsurprisingly felt most by female actresses, as many expressed their condolences via Twitter. Bette Midler, who is iconic in her own right, tweeted about her peer saying, “Jean Stapleton, beloved as Edith in ALL IN THE FAMILY dies at 90. She was unforgettable in that role…rest in peace…” Actress Alyssa Milano simply tweeted, “RIP,” while Debi Mazar tweeted, “R.I.P Jean Stapleton!!One of my favorites.” Marlee Matlin left a beautiful message on her Twitter: “Jean Stapleton who played Edith Bunker was no dingbat. When I finally saw All in the Family with captions I realized she was brilliant! RIP.” Marie Osmond also wrote about a memory of Jean, saying, “So remember Carroll O’Connor & Jean Stapleton on #DonnyandMarie talk show in 2000. Last TV interview together. Peace to you Jean.” And Jean’s death seemed to really crush actress/comedian Sandra Bernhard, who tweeted the simple message, “suddenly they’re gone. and it’s too much to bear.” But it wasn’t all actresses – Vegas actor Michael Chiklis also tweeted, “‘All in the Family’ star Jean Stapleton dies at 90. One of my favorites has passed away. Jean was Brilliant. RIP.” All of these tweets are so thoughtful and just go to show how important Jean was. She will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends in this tough time.
