Last night, The Cinema Society, along with Bloomberg and Thomas Pink, hosted the New York screening of “Equity†at the Museum of Modern Art. The film’s stars, including Anna Gunn, James Purefory, Alysia Reiner, Sarah Megan Thomas, and Sam Roukin, plus David Alan Basche, Margaret Colin, and Sophie von Haselberg, came out to support director Meera Menon.
The film aims to highlight the “catty†side of Wall Street, and follows Naomi Bishop (portrayed by Gunn), a powerful senior investment banker who fights to rise to the top of the corporate ladder at a competitive Wall Street firm. Roukin plays the CEO of Cachet, a tech company that’s preparing for an IPO, which Naomi tries to win over.
“I was interested in seeing women negotiate power and money,†said Menon about the film. “These are two things that have been historically denied to women and I feel like it was a real opportunity for us to explore that kind of thematic idea through the genre of a financial thriller. That was what was exciting to me—that the movie plays like the insider but through that aesthetic we were also able to explore ideas of being a woman in a male-dominated environment.â€
On top of dishing on her favorite costumes from the film—a short navy blue dress by Bird and a Nicole Miller dress “the color of moneyâ€â€”Thomas shared her biggest challenge during filming. “I’m pregnant in the film and hiding it,†she says. “Acting was easy compared to figuring out which days to wear what boob pad and butt pad!â€
A bevy of guests continued on to the after-party at SixtyFive, where they enjoyed skyline views and Qui tequila cocktails called “The IPOâ€: Ray Liotta, Alan Alda, Paul Haggis, Jackie Cruz, Catherine Curtin, Nicole Trunfio, Nolan Funk, Laura Bell Bundy, Rosanna Scotto, Chuck Scarborough, Pat Cleveland, June Ambrose, Christiane Seidel, Caroline Lowe, Eve Plumb, Candy Pratts Price, Adam Glassman, Debbie Bancroft, Joshua Bell, Kiera Chaplin, RJ King, Drew Nieporent, Mara Teigen, Louisa Warwick, and Timo Weiland.
