Hocus Pocus Sequel Already Sets Its Shooting Location
A TikTok user has eyed the set for the eagerly awaited Disney comedy sequel, Hocus Pocus 2.
The Hocus Pocus follow-up is going to be airing on Disney + next fall, according to sources. The cast of the film is a movie-goer’s delight: funny ladies Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are back starring in the new picture. The trio of women portrayed witches known as the Sanderson sisters in the first film. These sisters were out to have fun and wreak havoc, simultaneously. They were hung in Salem, Massachusetts centuries before the first film took place but were re-summoned accidentally by young kids. Thora Birch (who later went on to play in the Oscar-winning film American Beauty) co-starred in the film.
In a Tik Tok clip, Kiel James Patrick came on to a small town being constructed with a picturesque New England “backdrop.” Halloween is almost upon us and it’s the perfect time for this sequel to start being filmed! The aforementioned clip was played to Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Come Little Children.” This scenery and song echo the setting and theme of the earlier 1993 picture.
The actual filming on the new picture will start on October 18th. Salem will be wonderfully re-created. One of the other unveiled locations where the film will be filmed is the Cranston Street Armory. Shots of the witches flying will surely be captured terrifically in that spot!
Filming Begins October 18
Witch movies are usually hit or miss and not many movies since the $44 million-grossing 1993 picture have been able to capture the fun of witchcraft in a way that the original Hocus Pocus did. Practical Magic came the closest back in 1998.
Disney first made the official announcement for the upcoming sequel last December. Director Anne Fletcher of 27 Dresses fame will be helming the new picture. It is only appropriate that a woman take over directing duties as previous witch films such as the first film (which was directed by Kenny Ortega) and Practical Magic (helmed by Griffin Dunne) were directed by men. The Sanderson sisters will be back from the dead for another round of hijinks next fall and audiences couldn’t be more excited!
