The Divine Miss M. made her way to Broadway on June 6 to visit former back-up dancer and current showstopper Jenifer Lewis at the Friday night performance of Hairspray. Lewis, who signed on early in her career as one of Midler’s legendary dancing “Harlettes,” can thank Midler for her first big screen role–the two appeared in 1988’s Beaches together during the film’s grand production number. This time, Midler proudly watched her diva pal take center stage as the newest Motormouth Maybelle . Post-show, Midler scooted backstage to congratulate her former colleague and visit with Hairspray stars Marissa Perry and Ashley Parker Angel.
