Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) Impersonating Bette Midler

Mister D: My, my, my…this is a treat. This must have been from an old Lynda Carter TV special or something. She’s dreaming about becoming a rock and roll singer…one of them happens to be our own Divine Miss M….pretty funny, yet ghastly all at the same time. Enjoy:

Love, Mister D

  1. Mister D: Ghastly is the proper word here. I believe this aired in the ’78-’79 season when Lynda put away her “lasso of truth” and recorded an album. The name of the album was “Portrait.” The show was reviewed in the local paper and the reviewer gave a short blurb about how Lynda portrayed Tina, KISS and Bette in a dream sequence. The reviewer said of the three, he thought Lynda did a very good Bette. That was all I needed to read for me to tune in. Yes it is pretty bad, but she did give a few nods to Bette: homage to “King Kong,” a take off of Bette sliding down the platform shoe, and something else I noticed: the tassle on the back of her dress that Bette will later wear in “Divine Madness.”

    Thanks for the memory!

  2. Mister D: Historian! You make me sound so scholarly! At least you didn’t call me “the loser guy who can remember the ’70s like it was yesterday but now can’t remember what he ate for breakfast!!”

  3. I watched this whole thing with my mouth wide open in confusion/wonder/amazement/joy. She (sorta) does do a nice imitation of Bette but it’s incredibly cheesy. I’m sure Bette loved it back in the day.
