ALOHA and THANK YOU BETTE MIDLER:
Near the end of 1999, Entertainer Bette Midler purchased about 1,390 acres of land immediately across the street from our office. Unfortunately we did not represent her but we are glad that she is our neighbor. She already owns a large home on the north shore of Kauai.
Ms. Midler purchased the property from Amfac Sugar Kauai/JMB. According to a recent article in our local newspaper, Bette Midler has no immediate intention of doing anything with the land, except to preserve it. Apparently she is looking into planting hardwood and Hawaiian indigenous trees on the property as it is in her blood to try and protect the natural beauty of the islands.
Bette was born and raised on the island of Oahu, which is the closest major island to Kauai and it is where the cities of Honolulu and Waikiki are located, along with the bulk of the resident population of Hawaii.
We are Happy to have Bette Midler as our neighbor and we are especially pleased to hear that her plan for this large acreage is to keep it in some kind of natural form. For the most part, that is the type of person that is attracted to Kauai.
The property sold for a very good (low) price of only $4.4 million.
