The 10 Best Movie Gangs Who’ve Gotten (Back) Together
BY R. ERIC THOMAS
JUN 13, 2018
The crowds who flocked to theaters this past weekend to make Ocean’s 8 the number one movie in America probably left with two thoughts in mind: 1) Wow, Anne Hathaway is G.O.A.T., and we’re lucky to have her. No slander for our Oscar-winning queen; 2) Can’t wait til this gang gets back together. The Ocean’s films, of which the all-female iteration is both a sequel and a reboot, excel at one of the greatest tropes in all entertainment: the ragtag gang of old friends and newcomers who combine their skills for one so-crazy-it-just-might-work mission. Sometimes participants are lured in with the promise that this is “one last mission,” which—let’s be honest—it never is. Sometimes the draw is the promise of wealth; sometimes it’s a devil’s bargain as repayment for a past crime; sometimes it’s all in service of an old friend who could really use the specific skills of a disparate group who somehow found their way into each other’s lives. Sometimes is a highly mobile pair of pants.

Paramount Network picks up First Wives Club reboot as half-hour series – To Premiere On TV Next Year
Paramount Network picks up First Wives Club reboot as half-hour series
By Alakananda Bandyopadhyay · 19:51 PST, 3 Jun 2018
Paramount Network’s latest venture is in the form of a new comedy series, “First Wives Club” – 10 half-hour long episodes of which have been picked up from Paramount Television. The blockbuster hit film ‘Girls Trip’ writer, Tracy Oliver, is attached to write and serve as executive producer.
Based on the favorite 1996 film from Paramount Pictures, which featured Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn, the half-hour series resembles the movie in its setting, which is New York City. The plot revolves around a group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart, and who find strength in their sisterhood – and of course a little revenge.

By Kimberly Roots / April 5 2018
A First Wives’ Club TV adaptation has scored a pilot order at Paramount Network (fka Spike), our sister site Deadline reports. The half-hour comedy will be based on the 1996 film starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton, which was itself an adaptation of Olivia Goldsmith’s 1992 novel.
The potential series will take place in New York City and will chronicle a sisterhood of women who find strength in each other — and engage in a little revenge — after their marriages end.

Greatest films about female solidarity
March 19, 2018
From Steel Magnolias to Frances Ha, these are our favourite films about female solidarity.
If there’s one thing that life can guarantee, it’s unpredictability. When life doesn’t appear to be going according to plan and nothing seems to be going as it should, one of the few things you can be certain of is that your fellow women are going to be there with you no matter what. This rings true for Aurore (Agnès Jaoui), in I Got Life! – a timely and uplifting film celebrating womanhood which arrives in UK cinemas on March 23rd.

(On The First Wive’s Club Sequel): “People love to jump to conclusions. I’ve been at it so long I never jump to any conclusion,” she says. “One hit does not make a trend. It was funny because, as big a hit as that was, the town was determined to say it was a fluke. And that’s what they decided they were gonna say, that’s what they said and that’s how they behaved.”(Rocky Mountain News, 1999) – Bette Midler

Paramount Network to Adapt ‘First Wives’ Club Into TV Series
Carli Velocci | October 2, 2017 @ 12:16 PM
Paramount Network announced Monday that it’s developing a new half-hour series based on the 1996 film “First Wives Club.”
Tracy Oliver, who most recently co-wrote the screenplay for the adult comedy summer hit “Girls Trip” is attached to the project. She became the first African-American woman to write a movie that grossed over $100 million domestically.
The series will have roughly the same plot as the film, which starred Diane Keaton, Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn as a trio of recently-divorced women who seek revenge on their husbands, who left them for younger women. In the meantime, the group also bonds together and finds strength to move forward thanks to their sisterhood.

Vulture Asks: What Are the Best Revenge Movies?
By Vulture Editors
August 7, 2017
Perhaps you’ve just been betrayed by a friend, rejected by a lover, or unceremoniously fired by the leader of the free world on a global stage. Whatever the reason may be, we’re all occasionally in the mood for some good, old-fashioned vengeance at the movies, whether that comes in the form of gritty Korean thrillers, tales of petty high-schoolers plotting to upend the social hierarchy, or Bette Midler singing Lesley Gore in a white pantsuit.

What’s it rated? PG
When you think of a go-to pick-me-up movie, one filled with marital betrayal, vengeance, blackmail, and more shoulder pads than you can shake a stick at doesn’t seem to be a natural fit. Nonetheless, ever since I fished out The First Wives Club from a discount DVD bin as a tween, the movie has weirdly never failed to perk me up. I blame the underlying theme of feminism, comedic timing, and the weirdly charming use of the phrase “It’s the ’90s,” to justify everything from getting Botox to minimalism.
