Because all of us guests in black tie at the Tony Awards had to sit from 8 to midnight, I have come up with a new award for next year: the Fanny Award. It will be given to members of the audience. The trophy will be shaped like a cushion.
Alex Cohen’s awards at the Shubert and great party at the Americana must have cost $750,000. New Yorkers thought Charles Nelson Reilly and Nancy Walker were the funniest performers very interesting, because they’re not on way anymore.

Secrets of Sardi’s: The hall of fame of Broadway
By Meghan Giannotta email@example.com
May 12, 2016
Right in the heart of the theater district sits Broadway’s own hall of fame: Sardi’s.
Walking into the Sardi’s dining room, you’re greeted by Bette Midler, Tom Hanks, Lucille Ball and hundreds of other famous faces — well, caricatures of their faces, at least. As many as 1,200 caricatures have hung on the walls at Sardi’s, a tradition begun by founding owner Vincent Sardi Sr. in 1927 as a way to drum up business.

Playbill 12 Things You Should Know About Hello, Dolly!
By Robert Viagas 19 Jan 2016
By Robert Viagas 19 Jan 2016
Bette Midler announced Jan. 18 that she is returning to Broadway in 2017 to play Dolly Gallagher Levi in a major revival of the musical Hello, Dolly! Here are some facts you should know about the show.
* Dolly, which opened Jan. 15, 1964, was the Hamilton of its time, selling out instantly and remaining a hot ticket for years.
* Carol Channing was not the first choice to play the title role. Originally conceived for Ethel Merman, it sought at least two other actresses, Mary Martin and Nancy Walker, before settling on Channing. It became one of her signature roles, along with Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. (Merman later went into the production, and composer Jerry Herman restored two songs to the score he had written especially for her.)
