Midler’s concert convoy
April 16, 2005
PEOPLE travelling home from work along the M4 this week could have been forgiven for thinking a head of state was in town.
But a convoy of an amazing 19 hire cars making their way to the Sydney Superdome on Wednesday night was actually an entourage for Bette Midler.
Confidential hears Miss M had originally ordered just three cars to take her and her “people” from her city hotel to the Superdome but at about 5pm, just three hours before she was due on stage, she decided she needed 16 more cars and that the cars needed to travel in an unbroken convoy all the way to the venue.
IN more things Midler, music writer Kathy McCabe reports the man responsible for the witty parochial repartee that had Midler fans in hysterics this week is Eric Kornfeld, who updates the singer’s schtick for every concert.
Midler’s gags in Wednesday night’s show had her sledging everyone from Prime Minister John Howard to Pauline Hanson.
“He reads every newspaper he can get his hands on,” a spokesman said.
