Every’s music men

After a successful first week, the blackcat lounge season of queer cabaret continues at Marrickville’s Sidetrack Theatre until March 10.
On February 29, local queer singer-songwriter Brett Every – fresh from his win for Best Folk/Jazz/Roots video in the 2011 RightOut TV Awards – will play a special show titled Ten Men in an Hour.
Every will present 10 songs about men, including originals he’s yet to release on CD. Hear his break-up songs Henry and Dear Sidney, a song to a best friend done wrong (If You See Ollie) odes to a doctor (Doctor Joe) and a priest (Brother Taylor), plus a song addressed to a boyfriend’s angry father (Mr Smith).
Every will also use his set to showcase his knack for an impeccably chosen cover – expect to hear his take on Mika’s Billy Brown, Concrete Blonde’s Joey and Bette Midler’s Come Back Jimmy Dean.
Every’s concert is part of a packed program for this second half of the Sidetrack season, including multiple concerts from Lady Sings It Better, who offer feminine reinventions of male-penned songs, and two showings of Homage, in which local LGBTQI musicians play homage to their queer musical heroes.
That was not a bad cover! I’ve always loved that song. I’ll have to check this guy out!
