Video: September ~ Bette Midler (With Lyrics)

September

(Robin Lerner, Steven DuBerry, and Hillary Lindsey)

Have we learned our lesson
Or would we do it all again
Will we keep on second guessing
What’s as plain as anything

I know they said we had it coming
But I’ve seen some some things I never thought I’d see
In my life

All the little reasons that get me down
They mean nothing
I fear the good times may be gone forever

Will we cry
Will we laugh
Will this moment be our last

Will we hate
Will we fight
Seek the truth
Or live a lie

Or will we just learn
Cause we’ve known it all along
Will we keep on re-living September
Or will we learn

September the eleventh
I did what I’ve always done

I took the subway to Manhattan
Rode the train like everyone

Oh I saw the sky filled with sunlight
And the city that had given me my wings
Come tumbling down

All around me the jigsaw pieces they fell
Broken diamonds

You may be gone
But you are not forgotten

Will we laugh
Will we cry
Just give up
Or go down fighting

Will we hate
Or Refuse
Will we love
What will we choose

Or will we just learn
Cause we’ve known it all along
Will we keep on re-living September

Will we learn
Will we learn
Will we give love in return

Will we hate
Or refuse
Will we love
What will we choose
Or will we just learn
Cause we’ve known it all along

Will we keep on
Re-living September
Or will we learn

  1. I nominate that the record company make this available for download, single release on vinyl, any other art form imaginable, and make it a booklet availalbe for all the history teachers and music teachers, art teachers, hec, even religion classes if so desired, it is soul searing! Wow! Thank you for this!

  2. Thank you for posting this video. I knew you would! Such a beautiful song.
I had hoped Bette would record this, maybe someday. I was lucky to hear her sing this live and KMB is my favorite concert. I loved how she followed this with From A Distance. Perfect pairing.

    Thanks Don……..

    1. Glad you liked the choice. I thought everybody else would go with WBMW’s but I’ve always loved this song since KMB! Wish she would have recorded this one too….

  3. She probably did record it . . . there are SO MANY songs that she’s done that are just sitting in a vault somewhere. It’s a tragedy. I know she recorded “Mary” from The Millennium Tour. Everybody fell in love with that song at the time, but it never got released like so many other great tunes. And there’s enough known material missing from her early recording career to make at least five full length albums. I just don’t get it. I think it’s time for that long awaited BOX SET! Come on Don, make it happen! LOL

  4. The elusive box set, oh, please Bette what do we have to do?? We can only hope. I don’t understand why so much material has not been released. I heard Bette say they did record Mary, but could not get it right, the way she wanted, so it was put on a shelf. So much great music including all the Motown stuff that was not released. Martha, Rainbow Sleeves, so many songs from De Tour (yes, we did get that released, as a bootleg, I think it would be called) and all the songs we wish she would record. Bette tweeted a while back that she was listening to new music and commented on Trisha Yearwood, I think it was, and I had hopes she was listening to new music she might record. It’s been 12 years since a CD of new material. Yes, we had the Rosemary Clooney & Peggy Lee Tributes, which I love, but she released Bette in Oct 2000. That is a long time without a CD of new material.

  5. 1. Today is a perfect day to post “September”. It’s one of the most gorgeous song The Divine One has ever performed. It says many truths.

    2. “Mary” was recorded and Miss M didn’t want it out? How unfortunate. I love that song as well.

    3. Even “Cool Yule” had no new material.

    4. A new album is needed. Streisand’s fans never had to endure the hunger we do as followers of The Divine One!

    5. If Miss M doesn’t want a full-blown boxset release with all the albums, previous unreleased tracks, all the DVDs on Blurays, comments from major co-stars, producers and experts, plus picture postcards, wall poster and discount cupom for a new grand on-line store; she could release a limited edition (numbered) boxset to be sold at QVC like Rosie O’Donnell did with her The Rosie O’Donnell Show.
