Sophie walked out onstage and said “Hi I’m Sophie Von Haselberg Bette Midler’s daughter. My mom was devastated she couldn’t be here to celebrate with you Marc so she sent me in her place to read you this poem. It’s great to be here with my two greatest GOD-MOTHERS (lol) Sorry for those of you that have already heard it.” She read a poem that Bette wrote for Marc Shaiman’s 50th birthday. Sophie had to stop twice because she was crying. She was very emotional throughout the poem some of it hilarious other parts sentimental. The last line of the poem read something to the effect of: “Now the boy has become a man, with this I write with love from your biggest fan.” It was beautiful everyone cried.
