Audio: Pete Townshend Of The Who Wrote 2 Songs For Bette Midler But She Rejected Them

Pete Townshend, 0f the Who, wrote two songs for Bette Midler: “And I Moved” and “You’re So Clever”. Both were intended for her but were rejected. “And I Moved” appeared on Townshend’s 1980 solo album Empty Glass. Midler’s team found it too sexually explicit, not aligning with her preferred style for provocative songs. “You’re So Clever” was also submitted but turned down, with no clear reason specified beyond general rejection by her or her producer.
