Thora Birch is opening up about her identity, sharing publicly that she is bisexual while reflecting on the community that shaped her.

The Hocus Pocus star, 44, made the revelation during an appearance at West Hollywood’s The Abbey 35th Anniversary celebration on Wednesday, May 20. Speaking to Us Weekly, the Los Angeles native connected her upbringing to her personal journey.

“As a hometown girl, I’m always here to show my support for the community, which shaped so much of who I am and my identity as well, being a bi person,” Birch said.

The actress has been married to director Michael Benton Adler since 2018.

Birch expressed unity and compassion in her remarks, encouraging people to lean on their communities during difficult times.

“I don’t want to get too political, but find your community where you can, and stand with them, and stick with them, and share that love that you share together, and reach it toward others,” she said. “That’s the only way we’re going to get through all this madness is just embracing one another. We have to stop fighting.”

According to her representative, Birch has a longstanding connection with the iconic gay bar. She grew up in West Hollywood within walking distance of The Abbey, a landmark that has supported the LGBTQ+ community since 1991.

Beyond her personal revelation, Birch also reflected on her acting career and the characters that made her a recognizable face in 1990s films. She even shared that she would be open to revisiting some of ‘90s cult classic roles, including Dani from Hocus Pocus, Teeny from Now and Then, and Enid from Ghost World.

“I feel like so many of my fans kind of wonder about, obviously, Dani [from] Hocus Pocus. I feel like Teeny, we know what happened with her, so that’s good, but it would be intriguing to see some of the other old standbys, like Enid from Ghost World. Who knows what she’s up to? She’s alive, probably,” Birch shared. “I think there’s also something nice about having them encapsulated.”

In 2022, Hocus Pocus 2 premiered on Disney+, bringing back Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as Salem’s Sanderson Sisters. While Birch’s character did not appear in the sequel, she has expressed interest in returning for the newly announced third installment.

“I’d like to know what they land on for how Dani wound up. I’m super open to the idea,” she told Entertainment Tonight in October 2025. “They like talking about this stuff, so we’ll see.”

Birch recently starred in Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut The Chronology of Water, which world premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
