BEST BET: Free jazz keeps flowing downtown

The free Jazz in the Park Series continues this weekend with Nathan Tanouye and The Las Vegas Jazz Connection. Showtime is 8 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Amphitheater, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.

Tanouye has served as principal trombonist for the Las Vegas Philharmonic since 1998. He also has performed with such stars as Tony Bennett and Andrea Bocelli.

In addition, he has played in shows such as “The Producers,” “Hairspray” and “Storm.” He wrote some of the orchestral arrangements as well as performed in Bette Midler‘s “The Showgirl Must Go On.”

The Las Vegas Jazz Connection has three CDs, including two that showcase big band music from the late Russ Freeman: “Crossings” and “Remembering Russ.”

Picnics and low-back chairs are allowed, and food and drink also will be for sale.
