The Divine Miss M‘ is back with her latest studio album, “It’s the Girls!” where she pays homage to classic songs by all-female groups.

It opens with the upbeat and infectious “Be My Baby,” where she tips her hat to The Ronettes, and does a wonderful job at it. “One Fine Day” is up-tempo and rocking, while she belts out the emotional ballad “Baby It’s You.”

Her album includes a stellar collaboration with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love on “He’s Sure The Boy I Love,” and that alone is worth the price of the CD.

Midler’s rendition of “Mr. Sandman” is pleasant, while “Come and Get These Memories” is another flawless sung ballad. “Too Many Fish in the Sea” is upbeat and a great deal of fun. “Teach Me Tonight” is a nostalgic, piano-driven ballad. She is able to dust off TLC’s “Waterfalls” and make it into her own.

“You Can’t Hurry Love” is another classic that she nails that is the ideal sing-along. She changes the pace of Carole King‘s “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and really brings out the emotion of the lyrics, thus delivering a captivating version. It closes on an upbeat note, with “It’s The Girl.”

The Verdict

Overall, Bette Midler proves that her voice is like fine wine on this musical venture. All of these songs are well-crafted and they are very nostalgic. One can easily tell that this was a passion project for Midler. Her album earns an A rating.
