Bette Midler: “She possessed one of the great American voices of the last
century, full of warmth, sincerity and truth. Her intonation was impeccable, she never sang a false note … she radiated intelligence and good humor, and boy, could she swing!” The “she” Midler spoke about was the late Rosemary Clooney. She did more than just speak about Clooney. Midler and former musical director Barry Manilow reunited to create Midler’s newest album, “Bette Midler Sings The Rosemary Clooney Songbook.” When asked about the new project with an old friend, Manilow said, “We had a ball, just like the old days! Better than the old days! I’m so thankful that she agreed to do it.” Fans of fine music should rush to their record stores on Tuesday, September 30, when “Songbook” goes on sale. Midler, Manilow and Clooney make a heck of a team.
