This week in “Personality Parade,” Walter Scott reports that Bette Midler is kicking off her 40-city “Kiss My Brass” concert tour in Chicago. Beyond preparing for her tour, Midler has had a very busy fall.

Midler recently finished shooting a remake of the 1975 sci-fi thriller The Stepford Wives, which also stars Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Christopher Walken, Faith Hill and Jon Lovitz. Midler plays Bobbie Markowe, a saucy resident of Stepford, Ct., who befriends Nicole Kidman as newcomer, Joanna. Together, the two uncover the bizarre truth behind their fellow Stepford housewives’ perfect exteriors.

Midler is also a tireless advocate for cleaning up New York City’s parks and open spaces. In 1995, she founded the New York Restoration Project, which has raised more than $18 million to renovate and maintain underserved recreation spaces throughout the city. Most recently, Midler presided over the unveiling of a new $2.3 million boathouse on the Harlem River in Upper Manhattan.

Q: I understand that my favorite entertainer, Bette Midler, is going on tour again. What can you tell me about it? — L. F., Studio City, Calif.

A: The Divine Miss M, 58, just finished filming “The Stepford Wives” with Nichole Kidman and hits the road this week. Her 40-city “Kiss My Brass”
tour kicks off in Chicago and will run for several months. The show features songs from her latest album, “Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook.” Incidentally, Bette and her husband, producer Martin von Haselberg, 53, will be empty-nesters next fall, after they send their 17-year-old daughter, Sophie, to college. It seems like only yesterday that Bette was 17.

Thank you Manilow Elf!!!
