STEELE SIGNS FOR ”˜SEX’ SEQUEL

Biloxi’s Shayna Steele, a Broadway actress-singer, is bound for the silver screen, having signed a movie deal to appear in the “Sex and the City” sequel, based on the HBO series about single women living in Manhattan.

The film stars Sarah Jessica Parker.

Steele, who was on the Coast this week with her husband, David Cook, recently signed the deal, she announced when the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce honored her Thursday night as its 17th and youngest “Biloxian Made Good.”

Steele’s professional accomplishments have taken her from her first audition at Biloxi Little Theatre’s “Summer Talent Showcase,” to professional work on cruise lines, the Great White Way, television appearances, movie voice-overs and, more recently, Las Vegas, where she performs with Bette Midler.

Steele is scheduled to perform Nov. 27 at the Biloxi Saenger for the annual Holiday Peppermint Pops, sponsored by the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra.

At the Bay Chamber event, she paid tribute to her early supporters who “helped pave the way” for her professional career, including her first manager, Emily Germanis; dance teacher Kelli Dickens; and longtime family friends Dick and Jackie Wilson, all of Biloxi.

Steele, daughter of Bobby and Kande Steele, was honored with presentations from Vincent Creel, representing the city of Biloxi; Harrison County supervisors Connie Rockco and Wendy Swetman III; and Nicole Surian Dyess, representing Steele’s Biloxi High Class of 1993. Chamber president Rusty David introduced emcee Wayne Hengen.

Twin nieces, daughters of Steele’s sister, Janie Reversé, were recognized by Cook and chamber guests in celebration of their birthday.
