  1. I wonder if the fact that she has exposure as a presenter and writes mentioning she is not in the hall will make a difference on getting her on the ballot next year….

  2. 1st. How about Tina Turner to induct The Divine One?

2nd. Miss M seems to be so happy in this. Is that song Rock’n’roll?! It had some R&B flavor to me! On a minor note: I didn’t like Bette’s outfit, only the shoes.

  3. I forgot to say that Miss M has a lot of wind. At times she keeps her mic miles from her mouth!

She’s so cute doing backing vocals for Darlene with her lips almost closed.

  4. I bet she had a blast doing the Bette Midler reunion show:

Tom Waits: “I Never Talk to Strangers”
    Bruce Springsteen: “E-Street Shuffle”
    Elton John: “Cher Special”
    Paul Simon: “Gone at Last”
    Neil Young: “Birds”
    Leon Russell: “Superstar”
Michael Douglas: one of her favorite actors

Not sure about Neil Diamond, Dr. John or Alice Cooper, but there has to be a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon in there somewhere. What a terrific show to watch. I love how the acceptance speeches were interspersed between the musical performances. I wonder if the 5-hour version is available anywhere?!

  5. Bette isn’t singing Rock and Roll. Priscilla” is disco.
To get inducted would involve her performing classic and modern Rock and Roll.
It would be more likely Bette would get a Tony award for Producing “Priscilla.
I admire her work doing NYRP more.

    Honestly,

    Kate Marsh

  6. Marcos – yes, I noticed that too – Bette is one of those performers who’s got tremendous lung power! Imagine her in her live performances walking/talking/dancing but still hitting the right notes! She really is Divine! <3<3<3

  7. good idea Don!! I was trying to think about a younger artist who counts Bette as an inspiration… one who could one day be considered also. Good choice! 🙂

  8. I’d love David Bowie to induct her – or to give her any award, really, since I’m not sure this Rock thing is that substantial for who Bette is, even though THE ROSE is one of the greatest movies on Rock and Roll; I still would prefer another Grammy. In film it would be Dustin Hoffman; that for the long overdue Oscar that may come when Miss M starts playing some interesting old ladies; For the Boys without the hideous make-up…

  9. Can one get a Tony as a producer? I mean, is there a best musical award and is the award given to the producers, writers or director?

    1. there are awards for all 3, however if you win best musica of the year, it mainly goes to the producers….

  10. Have you, guys, seen that Broadway’s “Sister Act” is being advertized as “A Divine Musical”? Even without Marc Shaiman the project channels its original intension as a Bette Midler vehicle. Whoopi is a producer in it as Disney Enterprises. The great Alan Manken wrote the music.

Not making the original film was a mistake by Miss M. Well, even goddesses can make mistakes.
