Hey Don! So I was YouTubing Bette Midler singing Shiver Me Timbers (Heh..It’s my favorite Bette cover) and I came across this interview from Regis and Kelly. So there ya have it directly from Bette herself. Dolores wasn’t included because it was way too expensive…which you already knew 😉
For Miss M to present the Delores segment on TV she must pay more to the owners of the songs and Delores sang parts and bits of many many songs. To have the same songs on video (Blu-ray and DVD) she might even have to pay more. So it’s economically prohibitive.
Now I thinking to myself: Does a songwriter charge you extra if you change the song and make it a parody?

I did not think about the songs, I was only thinking of the character Delores..then I was thinking, doesn’t Bette own Delores? That is where my confusion was.
