Midler likely to get role in ‘Gypsy‘

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Bette Midler and CBS are close to a deal for a three-hour TV production of the musical comedy
“Gypsy’
An agreement should be signed by Friday, producer Craig Zadan said Wednesday.
The movie would star Ms Midler a s b r a s s y stage m o t h er Mama Rose, t h e r o l e originally played by Ethel Merman on B r o a d w ay and by Rosalind Russell in the 1962 movie.
The role of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee has yet to be cast.
The movie would air next season.
