BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) – Bette Midler launched her film career playing a character a little like her real self: a beloved, concert-weary singer. Now, she’s taking a break from films to go back on the road.
“I’ve always loved the thrill of appearing live,” Midler said Thursday.
“After 10 years of making movies, I wanted to get back to my performing roots.”
Midler, 47, will be traveling from August to December, performing such songs as “Wind Beneath My Wings,” “From a Distance” and “The Rose.”
The tour includes an engagement at Radio City Music Hall in New York, with stops in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
Midler gained film stardom in “The Rose,” the 1979 saga of a troubled rock star.
