Bette Midler to lead recording of Hello, Dolly! on Broadway
10:16 13th April 2017 by William J Connolly
We prayed and asked for such a moment to come, and they listened. A new Broadway cast recording of Bette Midler’s Hello, Dolly! will be released later this year.
The show, which currently stars the Divine Miss M, features music and lyrics by classic writers Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart. Bette will star on the new recording, alongside her Broadway co-stars. The show is currently in previews in New York.
Hello, Dolly! tells the story of an outspoken matchmaker and her attempts to marry ‘half-a-millionaire’ Horace Vandergelder. Directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks, the news was announced on Twitter via Masterworks Broadway on Wednesday evening…

It seems the reality of having such a star as Bette performing live is almost a little too much for some. Earlier this year, Page Six reported that a fan fainted during Bette’s star turn on Broadway. It’s believed that during the first half of the show, a 53-year-old audience member from LA “started to feel dizzy and made his way to the aisle. But he lost consciousness and collapsed before the end of his row.”
The show was stopped and medical support was offered to them, however they refused to be taken to a local hospital as recommended. “When he regained consciousness, they checked his vitals and insisted he should go straight to the hospital,” the source continued to explain.
The audience member rightfully stating, “I’d sooner die than miss act two!” We can totally understand why!

The Shubert Theatre, which is now rightly framed with Bette’s name, previously broke box office records for the best first day of sales in Broadway history. But, like we’re surprised – it’s Bette!
Hello, Dolly! opens officially on Broadway 20 April. London transfer, please?
