Entertainer Bette Midler, Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, and freed Soviet refusenik Ida Nudel are among Ms. magazine’s 13 winners of 1987 Women of the Year awards.

Miss Midler, an actress, comedian, singer and mother, succeeded “without sacrificing one whit of her smarts, originality, bawdiness or power to the conventions of Hollywood and mass media,” Ms. announced Wednesday.

Brundtland and Nudel will share the magazine’s “Simone de Beauvoir International Woman of the Year Award,” named for the French feminist who died in 1986.

Other winners include USA Today publisher Cathleen Black, pediatric surgeon Patricia Donohoe of Boston, author Toni Morrison and tennis star Martina Navratilova
