From Don, AKA Mister D: I’m Still Here – My Father’s Passing And My Health (Not Required Reading, For Those Interested
Just wanted to let you know that I haven’t abandoned you or my site or Bette Midler. It’s just been an awful couple of months that have put me down hard. As I think I told you my body stopped producing testosterone, but I can’t take testosterone injections because my red blood cell count is too high making my blood very thick. The regular ways of reducing red blood cells haven’t worked on me so I’m starting to see a blood disease doctor to see if they can figure it out,

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bette Midler and Taj Mahal wowed the crowd with song, and actors from Kathleen Turner to Jason Robards lent their soothing speaking voices.
“ What call I tell you? I’m just an NPR kinda president,†the tuxedoed Clinton confessed to wild applause. “ It’s a good deal.â€

Long ago and so far away,
I fell in love with you before the second show.
And your guitar just sounds so sweet and clear,
but you’re not really here.
It’s just the radio.
Don’t you remember you told me you loved me, baby?
Said you’d be comin’ back this way again, baby.
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby.
I love you.
Lonliness is such a sad affair.
And I can hardly wait, oh,
just to sleep with you again.
What can I say to have you come again?
Come back and play, yeah,
you could play, you could play, play that sad guitar.

You’ll be forgiven if you think “Parental Guidance,” a comedy starring Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei seems to follow a standard formula of old vs. new. The producers of the film aren’t apologetic about it. They even promote the movie as Old School vs. New School in parenting.
As the movie starts, Crystal’s character, Artie Decker, a baseball announcer, is having career problems. The last thing Artie wants to do is spend time with his grandchildren. But his wife, Diane, portrayed by Bette Midler, wants a chance to no longer be her grandkids‘ second favorite grandmother.

Billy Crystal remembers watching his granddaughter color the back of a restaurant children’s menu in that free-for-all style and saying to his daughter: “I don’t get why you are letting her do that. They have lines for a reason.â€
His daughter’s reaction, more disapproving of his attitude than the child’s coloring, inspired a similar scene in Crystal’s movie “Parental Guidance,†opening on Christmas Day. In the movie, Crystal and his wife (played by Bette Midler) are reluctantly entrusted to watch their grandchildren while the parents turn a business trip into a much-needed getaway. The premise of the film is based on the six days Crystal and his wife spent watching their own granddaughters years ago.
