“Renowned entertainer Bette Midler founded the nonprofit New York Restoration Project (NYRP) in 1995 in the belief that clean and green neighborhoods are fundamental to the quality of life and that every community in New York City deserves an oasis of natural beauty. NYRP partners with individuals, community-based groups, and public agencies to reclaim, restore, and develop under-resourced parks, community gardens, and open space in New York City, primarily in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.
As part of her successful fundraising efforts to benefit the New York Restoration Project, the Divine Miss M is well known for hosting her legendary Fall Hulaween gala and her annual Spring Picnic.
This year, charitybuzz is partnering with Bette Midler for the New York Restoration Project’s 2008 Flower Power Auction. And 2007 has certainly been the year of proof. In January, her show, “The Sarah Silverman Program,” launched on Comedy Central scoring the highest ratings for a new show in 3 years. Rave reviews coupled with impressive numbers prompted a renewal and the show returns October 3rd 2007 with new episodes. Silverman also made an impressive splash when the feature length film version of her one-woman show opened in theaters. The film, “Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic,” directed by Liam Lynch and filmed before a live crowd in Los Angeles in 2004 garnered major attention at the Toronto Film Festival and created huge national buzz. Silverman was in turn named one of the Entertainers of 2005 by Entertainment Weekly and landed herself a spot as the Breakthrough Comedian of the Year in People.
With her comedic timing and incredible stage presence it’s no surprise that Sarah has been asked to host major award shows. In June she hosted the first-ever live telecast of the MTV Movie Awards, produced by Mark Burnett. She has also hosted Film Independent’s Spirit Awards the last 2 years running.
Silverman most recently co-starred in Jeff Garlin’s feature film, “I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With,” which premiered at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. She has also starred in “School For Scoundrels” opposite Billy Bob Thornton and John Heder for the Weinstein Brothers. Sarah blew audiences away in the documentary feature, “The Aristocrats” in which 100 of the industry’s most prominent comedians tell a version of the same joke. Before that she co-starred opposite Jack Black, Mike White, and Joan Cusack in “The School of Rock” for Paramount. She has also co-starred in “There’s Something About Mary,” “The Way of The Gun,” Ivan Reitman’s “Evolution,” “The Bachelor,” and “Say It Is’t So.”
Sarah co-starred on the FOX comedy “Greg The Bunny” opposite Eugene Levy. She has also guest starred in a slew of acclaimed and notable television shows such as “The Larry Sanders Show,” “Seinfeld,” and “Mr. Show with Bob and David.” Silverman also lends her voice to the hugely successful Comedy Central show, “Crank Yankers.”
Sarah grew up in New Hampshire and attended New York University. It was around this time that she began to pursue the Manhattan comedy scene and logged as much time in the comedy clubs as she did in the classroom. In 1993 she joined “Saturday Night Live” and has not stopped working since. Sarah currently resides in Los Angeles with her dog Duck.
