Cast of PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT to Take Part in Pride Parade, BBQ, and More!

Broadway’s Tony Award® winning hit musical PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT is showing her true colors to celebrate this year’s Gay Pride festivities with a series of appearances throughout the city leading up to its “journey to the heart of fabulous” on a Priscilla bus float at this Sunday’s parade.
Mayor Bloomberg’s Gracie Mansion Pride Barbecue – Wednesday, June 22
Mayor Michael Bloomberg will salute Gay Pride month with a barbecue at Gracie Mansion featuring an exclusive performance by Priscilla’s stars of the Pat Benatar anthem “We Belong” and an appearance by guest speaker “It Gets Better” founder Dan Savage, with whom Priscilla collaborated on the first ever PSA in support of LGBT youth. Macy’s Gay Pride Event and Fashion show – Thursday, June 23
Macy’s Salutes Gay Pride Week with special guest host Johnny Weir hosting the fashion event of the summer season featuring the stars of Priscilla Queen of the Desert launching the event with a performance of the “Diva Medley,” “Like a Prayer” and “We Belong” at 6:00pm. Following the show, Lawrence Washington from “Real Housewives of Atlanta” will perform and meet fans.
Heritage of Pride Parade March – Sunday, June 26
Priscilla Queen of the Desert stars will show their pride atop their signature fabulous double-decker bus The bus departs at 12pm on the parade route starts at 36th Street & 5th Avenue and ends at Christopher & Greenwich Streets. There will also be a dedicated Priscilla Pride booth present Pride Fest street festival from 11am – 6pm.For more information: http://nycpride.org/march.php.

City Council Speaker Quinn’s Annual Pride Event – Thursday, June 16
New York politicos gathered at Cooper Union to kick off the city’s annual Gay Pride celebration. This annual event organized by Christine C. Quinn, the City Council speaker, was kicked off with a performance by Priscilla’s “Divas” and star Nick Adams singing the anthem “We Belong.”
Following hit productions in Australia, London and Toronto, PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT THE MUSICAL opened to critical acclaim on March 20 at the Palace Theatre (1564 Broadway).

PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT was awarded a 2011 Tony Award® for Best Costume Design for Academy Award® winner’s Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner’s designs.The new hit musical was also honored with three Best Musical award nominations from the Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle Award organizations. Olivier Award nominee Tony Sheldon received a Tony Award® nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in addition to Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League nominations, and was awarded the Theatre World Award for outstanding Broadway debut. Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner were also honored with 2011 Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Costume Design this season.
Featuring a score of over 20 dance-floor classics, a company of 27, and with a dazzling array of more than 500 outrageous costumes, the spectacular new stage musical is a sensational journey to the heart of fabulous!

Direction is by Simon Phillips, choreography by Ross Coleman, musical supervision and arrangements by Stephen ”˜Spud’ Murphy and set design by Brian Thomson and costumes by Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner. Production supervised by Jerry Mitchell. Lighting is designed by Nick Schlieper, sound design is by Jonathan Deans and Peter Fitzgerald and make up design is by Cassie Hanlon.
