Twist the bones and bend the back. Itch-it-a-cop-it-a, Mel-a-ka-mys-tic-a. Trim him of his baby fat. Itch-it-a-cop-it-a, Mel-a-ka-mys-tic-a. Give him fur, black as black. Just”¦Like”¦This.
My greatest college accomplishment involved memorizing the lines to the witches cat spell in Hocus Pocus. It’s a great party trick and I recommend that any true Hocus Pocus fans learn it ASAP. And as someone born roughly between 1965-2001, I’ll assume you’re a true Hocus Pocus fan. It’s not only the best Halloween story ever told, but the cast includes Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker and a talking cat! Show me ONE other movie that involves witches, cats, black candles and virgins. I dare you.
While Thora Birch stole the show as the precocious Dani, we can’t forget about Jodie Rivera’s ghostly role as Emily Binx. It’s not every child actress who can play both a live child and a dead child. After acting in Hocus Pocus, Jodie Rivera disappeared from the acting scene for close to 14 years.
Then she reappeared on Youtube in 2006 as Venetian Princess and quickly blossomed into a full-blown Youtube celebrity. What started as a place to post audition videos turned into a forum for her to show off her acting talents and comedic chops.
From her website’s about page:
2008 was the year she changed her video content into what was then a new online video genre-music video parodies. This was the perfect niche for her, as she could now produce content where she would act, write her own lyrics, AND sing. After her first parody of Miley Cyrus’ “7 Things” was featured on the front page of YouTube, it quickly went viral with 20 million views. As the video was being shared by millions across social networks, she quickly started shooting up the charts. With the support of her viewers, she ended up beating Disney star Miley Cyrus and becoming the #1 most subscribed female performer in the world. This is a title she has held for over 2 years.
From a child killed by witches to the #1 most subscribed female on Youtube. How do you spell success? J-O-D-I-E (space) R-I-V-E-R-A.
