George Balanchine, the ballet world great, paid ‘Bette Midler the supreme compliment of asking her to take the lead role in the Kurt Weill–Bertolt Brecht “The Seven Deadly Sins,” with the New York City Ballet. (Balanchine would stage it with emphasis on the theatrical aspect.)
Unfortunately, Bette is working on a hush-hush movie project and a TV special and is unable to accept Balanchine’s offer now. But she definitely wants to talk to him, about the possibility of doing it later.
