Nominations Announced For Grammy Awards Show

HOLLYWOOD (Special) – The National Academy of Recording Arts and Science has announced nominees for Grammy Awards, and the winners will be named and honored on the broadcast of the 19ih annual “Grammy Awards Show.” at 8:30 p m Saturday on Channel 13.

Grammy Awards are presented by the Academy to honor outstanding artistic and technical achievements in the recording world.

Winners of the Academy’s Hall of Fame citations, chosen from recordings released prior to the advent of the Grammy Award in 1953. will be announced on the program In addition, the special will feature a film saluie to Atlanta. Ga.. the burgeoning recording center of the Southeast and that city’s contributions to the music industry.

The “Grammy Awards Show” will be broadcast live from the Hollywood Palladium. Andy Williams will be host for the seventh consecutive year. Presenters include Bette Midler to Barbra Streisand.

Record of The Year “Afternoon Delight” – Starland Vocal Band; “50 Ways lo Leave Your Lover” – Paul Simon; “I Write the Songs” – Barry Manilow; “If You Leave Me Now’ – Chicago; “This Masquerade” – George Benson

Album of The Year: “Breezin”‘ – Georse Benson. “Chicago XI” – Chicago; “Frampton Comes Alive” – Peter Frarnpton: “Silk Degrees” – Boz Scaggs: “Songs in the Key of Life” – Stevie Wonder.

Song of The Year (Songwriter’s Award!: “Afternoon Delight” – Bill Danoff: “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” – Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield; “I Write the Songs” – Bruce Johnston; “This Masquerade” – Leon Russell; “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” – Gordon Lightfoot.

Best New Artist of the Year: Boston; Dr. Buzzard’s Original “Savannah” Band; The Brothers Johnson; Starland Vocal Band: Wild Cherry.

Best Pop Vocal Performance Female: “Hasten Down the Wind” – Linda Ronstadt; “Here, There and Everywhere” – Emmylou Harris; “The Hissing of Summer Lawns” – Joni Mitchell. “Natalie” – Natalie Cote. “Turn the Beat Around” – Vicki Sue Robinson.

Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male: “Silk Degrees” – Boz Scaggs: “Songs in the Key of Life” – Stevie Wonder: “This Masquerade” – Georse Benson: “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” – Gordon Ligntfoot: “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” – Lou Rawls.
