SIGN LANGUAGE: Twentieth Century-Fox has just erected an immense, attention-getting sign on Broadway touting the company’s forthcoming picture, “The Rose,” costarring Bette Midler and Alan Bates.

Where there’s a rose, there’s a thorn, and the thorn in this situation is that the Ziegleld Theatre (where the flick is
scheduled to premiere in November) has been misspelled “Ziegfield” on the huge sign – twice.

When we called Fox in New York to make them aware of this embarrassing larger-than-life typo, the startled representative shrieked, “Ouch! Wait till the West Coast hears this.”
