Some odds and ends from the world of entertainment. In Las Vegas where the gamblers know a thing or two, odds are now being made on what and who will win Academy Awards in a couple of months time. The favorite film is Kramer vs. Kramer with The Rose, Apocalypse Now and Chapter Two as also rans.

Dustin Hoffman is also favored to win best actor award with Martin Sheen, James Caan and Peter Sellers as distant prospects.

The situation with best actress is complicated by Meryl Streep‘s screen time in Kramer vs. Kramer. She disappears after the first five minutes and does not reappear until the picture is half over. If she should be relegated to the “best supporting actress” category, then Bette Midler in The Rose, Marsha Mason in Chapter Two and Sally Field in Norma Rae are the possible winners.

James Woods is a 6/5 favorite to get the best male supporting performance for his part as the ruthless killer in Joseph Wambaugh’s The Onion Field.
