Multi-instrumentalist and recording artist Buzzy Linhart suffered what is described as a “major seizure event” on Tuesday (May 29) and remains in the hospital recovering.

Buzzy’s son, Xeno David Rasmusson, posted about the situation on Tuesday:

Hey Friends, my father Buzzy Linhart had a major seizure event this morning and is in the ICU at Alta Bates in Berkeley. He is sedated, intubated and resting after a lot of testing today. MRI came back normal, so we are hopeful he will emerge from sedation in the morning. Room mate Lenny acted quickly so the care was delivered quickly, so for now all we can do is rest, pray, and fire up the Buzzy Linhart music. @linhartbuzzy #buzzylovesyou

Since then, he has been keeping Linhart fans updated on a regular basis. On Wednesday afternoon, they knew there was no brain damage and had been intubated and under sedation but, by the next day, he was breathing on his own. According to Rasmusson, one of the first things he asked was whether he would be able to sing again and medical personnel told him he would.

A page is available on the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund site to help Buzzy with costs.

Buzzy, 75, moved to New York in 1963 where he roomed with John Sebastian and became a protege of Fred Neil. He recorded his first album in 1969, buzzy, and has released over a dozen albums over the years.

Along with his own albums, Linhart has appeared on sets by John Sebastian (John B. Sebastian), Jimi Hendrix (The Cry of Love), Carly Simon (Carly Simon), Midler (The Divine Miss M), Labelle (Labelle, Moon Shadow) and others.

As a songwriter, he wrote the song “Friends” which is best known from the recording by Bette Midler. He has also acted in movies like The Groove Tube and Modern Problems along with Bill Cosby’s mid-70’s series Cos.
