Mister D: I posted this about the Neville Brothers because there is a Bette connection. She saw them at Tipitina’s a dog’s ago and was so impressed with them that she called Atlantic Records about them. Atlantic passed but A & M signed them. On there first album for the label they dedicated the song “Mona Lisa” to Bette. Later on Bette recorded one of my all-time faves, “Cradle Days,” by Aaron Neville
New Orleans style: The Neville Brothers are music royalty in the Big Easy, but their hometown popularity never seemed to translate to big record sales outside New Orleans. Then again, such luminaries as Bette Midler, Keith Richards, Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana have sung the group’s praises or collaborated with it through the years, and Aaron Neville’s falsetto is one of the most distinctive voices in pop. The Neville Brothers play at Park City’s Suede, 1612 Ute Blvd., Tuesday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance, $22.50 day of show, at all Smith’s Tix outlets.
