Hot 100 Turns 60! The Top 60 Songs That Never Reached No. 1: Which Bette Midler Song Was It?

Billboard Hot 100 Turns 60! The Top 60 Songs That Never Reached No. 1 by Xander Zellner August 02, 2018, 2:33pm EDT Bette Midler As we celebrate the Billboard Hot 100‘s 60th anniversary, Billboard looks at the silver medalists, the runners-up, and third-, fourth-, fifth- or, in one case, sixth-place finishers, i.e., the hits that didn’t reach No. 1 on the weekly ranking, but were huge hits nonetheless. LeAnn Rimes‘ “How Do I Live” ranks at No. 1 on the list below, as the smash ballad peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in 1997-98. It had the unfortunate timing of being blocked by Elton John’s biggest hit, “Candle in the Wind”/”Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” which spent 14 weeks at No. 1. Still, “Live” logged 32 weeks in the top 10 and 69 total weeks on the chart, both records at the time. Its sustainability on the chart helped it land at No. 5 on the recap of the Hot 100’s top 600 songs of all time, marking one of only two non-No. 1s in the top 50.

Also notable on the list below is Foreigner’s 1981 single “Waiting for a Girl Like You.” The song spent 10 weeks at No. 2, without ever reaching No. 1, barricaded by Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” and Daryl Hall and John Oates’ “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do).” In 2002-03, Missy Elliott’s “Work It” tied “Waiting” for the most weeks at No. 2 for a song that has peaked at that position. ...  Read More

Curtain rises on Daytona Hard Rock Hotel – Which Of Bette’s Possessions Are On Display There?

Dayton Beach News Journal Curtain rises on Daytona Hard Rock Hotel By Clayton Park By Jim Abbott Updated Mar 2, 2018 at 6:41 PM DAYTONA BEACH — Dorothy Featherstone clutched a pair of commemorative pins Friday, proof that the Ormond Beach resident was among the first to explore the splendor of the Hard Rock Hotel, the highly anticipated beachside gem that is now open for guests. “I love the memorabilia,” said Featherstone, “I didn’t expect it, especially the Daytona connections. The locals are going to love it.” Featherstone was part of a mixture of guests and curiosity-seekers Friday, most informed of the hotel’s soft opening at 3 p.m. Thursday in a social media post after the fact. They wandered the lobby and public areas, gazing at rock artifacts that projected a vibe that was part luxury hotel, part museum. In the lobby alone, enormous glass display cases contained pop uber-star Taylor Swift’s bikini, worn by the singer for a holiday celebration on July 4, 2015; a yellow-and-red Adam Selman-designed touring outfit worn by singer Rihannon on her 2013 world tour; and a trio of flamboyant mermaid costumes used by Bette Midler and her backing singers during a residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. A nearby staircase was accented by a two-story helix-shaped sculpture of brass cymbals, a blend of large and smaller platters that tapered into a gentle spiral. In another case, an original MTV Moon Man award statue was accompanied by a nod to the music network’s association with Daytona Beach.

Kim K Is Celebrating Her New Fragrance By Sending One To All Of Her Haters, Including Bette Midler

Mister D: I can pretty much safely say that Bette Midler does not hate Kim K. Is she ripe fodder for jokes? Yes! Pedestrian Kim K Is Celebrating Her New Fragrance By Sending One To All Of Her Haters By Alex Bruce-Smith February 2, 2018 Kim Kardashian is celebrating her new Kimoji Heart KKW Fragrances by sending one to every person who’s ever crossed her. Taylor Swift, Piers Morgan, the lot. Her fragrances drop today, and come in three scents: Bae (with blue packaging), Ride or Die (purple) and BFF (pink). She’s sending out these incredibly extra gift boxes to certain people in her life, which a different fragrance inside an empty heart that the recipient has to smash.
Michelle Lee ? @heymichellelee I just broke open a giant chocolate candy with a Kim Kardashian fragrance in it. Any questions? 3:35 PM – Jan 31, 2018 39 39 Replies 493 493 Retweets 3,013 3,013 likes
And as well as some genuine friends and family – Kris Jenner, Paris Hilton, etc – a bunch of the ‘Bae’ scents are going out to her “haters”. “Alright guys. I am writing the list for my press boxes,” she said on her Instagram stories. “I’m going to send them to way more than this, but I decided this Valentine’s Day, everyone deserves a Valentine, so I’m going to send them to my lovers, to my haters, to everyone that I think of because it is Valentine’s Day after all.” It’s not, but that’s beside the point. As well as T-Swift and Piers Morgan, Kimmy’s sending Bae to: Blac Chyna, P!nk, Chelsea Handler, Bette Midler, Sharon Osbourne, Wendy Williams, Chloë Grace Moretz, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Janice Dickinson, and Naya Rivera. Some, like television host Wendy Williams, only crossed Kim in the last few days (she went on a tirade about Kim’s recent nude pics, saying that Kanye has “nothing for you except dribble and dribble and feeble conversation”), while others, like SMG, go back years. (She tweeted that she was “cancelling my Vogue subscription” after Kim and Kanye’s 2014 cover).

Sarah Michelle ? @SarahMGellar Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me??? 2:16 PM – Mar 21, 2014 4,462 4,462 Replies 8,537 8,537 Retweets 12,631 12,631 likes ...  Read More

Do Gay Men Love, Dislike or Feel Indifferent About Taylor Swift?

Instinct Do Gay Men Love, Dislike or Feel Indifferent About Taylor Swift? Instinct Staff | November 12, 2017 Gay men have had their share of female icons in their lives over the course of the past fifty years. Names that come to mind include Barbra Streisand, Cher, Madonna, Bette Midler and more. For my generation, the debate for many years was who did we like more: Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera? Although those are all still legendary names in the music business, the past couple of years has seen the rise of men in the industry dominating the charts after women like Beyonce, Lady Gaga and more were the ones at the top. Taylor Swift, however, has once again become the diva of the moment and catapulted herself back into the pop stratosphere due to the release of her album Reputation, which is already on track to selling well over a million copies in its first week of release. This has once again brought her back into the world of gossip and criticism, in particular with the gay community. On my social media alone, there seems to be a big line in the sand in terms of gay men who absolutely love her or the exact opposite. We all have our opinion on our music divas, and Taylor is no exception in the sense that gay men take either an incredible liking to you or is vastly against, and in the rare occasion… truly indifferent. Taylor herself happens to be a very polarizing person in the celebrity world. From her start as a country princess turned queen, to moments she didn’t cause (Kanye West interrupting her at the 2009 VMA’s) to ones she got herself into (her feud with Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian and more), and her fans thoughts on her shift from country to certified pop, she has definitely become one that many have voiced their opinion on. At the same time, it’s good that people are talking as it means you are not only relevant but also a vital force in this machine of entertainment. My personal opinion on Taylor is this: what she has been able to do in the music industry and in pop culture in general is astounding, in the best way possible. To go from some not so known country artist to finding her niche with her demographic and to watch that grow and grow over the past decade is truly remarkable. People will always have an opinion, but it’s sort of amazing to see her transform from one thing to something completely different, and to be a major force in saving the music industry in terms of album sales. That is something no one can take from her. I asked a bunch of friends, who happen to be gay men, their opinion on Taylor, and got a bunch of colorful and interesting responses. See below: “I find Taylor inspiring as far as her success is concerned. Her music is good and fits my genre for listening. As far as her beauty she can easily be a muse to any artist. I give her a thumbs up.” “Tay Tay!! Honestly I think she’s trying a little too hard but I’m excited for her new album. I love all the shade and drama she’s been pushing. Like the new songs/sound she’s pushing. Wasn’t a super big fan of her original country stuff, not a huge superfan but I dig a lot of her music.” “Being profoundly ignorant of most modern popular music. I have very few opinions of them.I do know that Jack Antanoff wrote some of her most popular stuff. I am not sure I could name you any of her songs or recognize her picture. I am sure she is a very nice person.” “I like her music. I don’t know much about her, but she seems fun.” “I think she’s a talented artist but I think she comes off as a bit spoiled and entitled. Love her music but her jilted ex girlfriend thing is getting old lol.” “I respect her as a songwriter and some of her stuff is catchy but she’s not the be all end all. She has a great marketing team, brand identity and approach to her fan base. As a business entity, she is incredible.” “Never a huge fan – liked a few of her songs, and I enjoy the pop turn she took. She used to irritate me but now I’m just apathetic.” “I think she needs to toughen up in order to be in such an ass backwards industry. I think what comes with the territory of being a mainstream artist is the need to learn the ability to evolve and grow as a person.” “She’s a branding genius. She’s very savvy in her use of her resource and network.”

Harry Dean Stanton Feuded With Bette Midler On The Rose

wu1ftc0 Stanton played a small role in the 1979 filmThe Rose” as a famed singer whose work is idolized by the title character played by Bette Midler. His character insults The Rose and asks her not to perform his songs. Stanton perhaps took the role a little bit to an extreme and began insulting Midler. On the recent Criterion Collection reissue of the film, Midler waxes fondly about all the cast, but still seems comically resentful of Stanton; she did, after all, once have a production company called “We Hold a Grudge Productions.” (Gold Derhy)
