H.L. Mencken‘s “No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public” seemed suitably topical again as Bette Midler‘s revue proved she’s not just a campy comic but a vulgar practitioner of the dregs of showbiz; detailing all her witless filth would be futile.

And why do homosexual audiences howl delighted raunchy chortles at La Midler, eclept La Bottomler … Certainly such a hysterically humorless reaction does little for seriously image-worried Gays.
