It’s been confirmed that movie legend Bette Midler will play Hollywood glamour girl Mae West in a new biopic for HBO.

According to World Of Wonder, the story, which is based on Mae’s autobiography Goodness Had Nothing To Do With It, will document the star’s controversial Broadway show Sex.

Famous for her innuendos and double entendres, Mae was jailed for 10 days in 1927 for “corrupting the morals of youth” with the show.

With a script by Kinky Boots’ writer Harvey Fierstein, and director William Friedkin at the helm, we can’t wait to see Bette take on some of Mae’s fabulous one-liners.

The biopic has been rumoured for a long time now ”“ in fact, Bette shared the gossip surrounding the project with GT back in 2014.

She told us: “That’s a great story, because she was such an interesting character and lived such a curious life. It started when she was just six-years-old, she was a real showbiz prodigy, in a way. She completely invented herself and was very, very proud of what she’d done.

“She never changed gears. She wrote her own material and she really let women have a sex life that they hadn’t had. Nobody knew they ware interested in it before her. So God bless that.”

Bette was also recently revealed to be one of the faces of Marc Jacobs’ new Spring/Summer 2016 campaign.
