Midler sets a record
May 26, 1993
NEW YORK (AP) – Bette Midler set a box-office record at Radio City Music Hall, selling more than 50,000 tickets in one day for her month long engagement.
Thousands of fans lined up outside the theater Monday to buy tickets. The one-day gross, also a record, totaled more than $3 million, Radio City spokesman Kevin Brockman said Tuesday. The top ticket price is $60.
Almost half the tickets for Midler’s 20-performance engagement at Radio City, Sept. 14 through Oct. 9, have been sold, Brockman said.
Midler’s engagement is part of her first major tour in 10 years. The tour begins in mid-August and includes stops in Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago, Cleveland, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Montreal and Toronto.
