Now that Parental Guidance is all but out of the theaters, I thought I’d throw in a few random comments/observations:
1) Cost $25M, total take about $77M (nice gross, as ROI) [P.S. No affront to Babs, but the battle of the divas was decisively won by the Divine One]
2) I noticed very little advertising for the film. It seemed to mostly succeed via good word of mouth, and the marketing strategy of releasing a family-oriented film at a time with little to no competition. I saw the film again in late January, and noticed it was the only PG film at the theater complex, and saw about a dozen trailers for upcoming G and PG rated films to be released later this year. This could be another reason that it had “legs” at the box office–a fun, family-friendly film that was also utilized to promote upcoming films that resonate to a similar audience. Merely speculation, and perhaps totally unintended, but I noticed the connection.
3) It’s currently #2 Comedy DVD on amazon.com.
4) Overall rating for the film is 4.5 out of 5 stars on amazon.com
I thought the film was much better and funnier than the general concensus of the film critics. I’d like to see sequels on this one. Also, nice to see Bette on a DVD that actually has some extras!!
Happy Easter!
As usual…right on point. So much had to be word of mouth because the critics were pretty savage. Plus your other points considered as well….xx
