Live below Bette Midler in a grand $20M Upper East Side co-op
The Fifth Avenue apartment is the stuff dreams of Upper East Side living are made of
By Zoe Rosenberg@zoe_rosenberg Jan 12, 2018, 10:07am EST
It isn’t often that apartments in the exclusive co-op at 1125 Fifth Avenue come to market, and it’s even less often that the apartment directly below Better Midler’s becomes available. But through a divine series of events, just that has happened.
The building’s grand 14th floor spread listed this morning for $20 million, putting the five-bedroom, five-bathroom house on display for the first time in who knows how long. (Public records on when the apartment last sold, and to whom, are nowhere to be found—alas!)

Sure, a new compact disc runs $15-$16 and the trusty cassette goes for $11-$12. Seats to an average pop music concert rarely start below $20 or $25, and if you want to see Paul Simon or Bette Midler or want really good seats, you can double or triple that.
But what you should remember, say record companies and concert promoters, is they make very little money from many concerts and actually lose money on most records.
In other words, they say, you can’t understand the cost of music these days simply by looking at “The Bodyguard†(10 million copies) or Frank Sinatra’s “Duets†($15 million worldwide profits) or a Billy Joel tour ($500,000 to $600,000 a night, even before scalping).

The museum says the gowns were bought for the museum by Midler, “a patron whose historical and theatrical conscience provided the incentive for the purchase at auction.”
Anderson, renowned African American singer, wore the garments at concerts from the 1930s through the early 1950s. The museum says of them: “Spanning three decades and evidencing a preference for gilt lame, their sumptuous simplicity echoes the timeless perfection and richness of Miss Anderson’s contralto (regarded by many as the voice of the century).”

“I feel sorry for anybody starting out today who might want to do what we did, because I don’t think it can be done anymore,†Burnett said. “I don’t think a network would have faith in it, nor would they want to put money into it. It would cost a lot more to do now what we did then.
“Now it’s pretty much all reality shows, and they can only go so far. I miss variety. I miss singing, dancing, sketches, costumes, guests stars. Maybe somebody can come back some day and a network might have faith in someone who could do that. I can think of a few people who would be wonderful. Bette Midler, Marty Short. Two that come to mind immediately. They’re funny. They can do sketches. They move well. They sing. I’d sure love to guest on one of their shows if that ever happened.

Bette Midler â€
“Another tragic day for America. My heart is broken for everyone left behind.”
As you all know Bette was scheduled to be on Leno and the premiere of “Parental Guidance” was to be held today. Â Don’t be surprised if the premiere is canceled or postponed in lieu of this horrible tragedy. This has taken a toll on America’s psyche, so any changes in schedule are to be expected.
My heart goes out to all those families affected during this awful tragedy. It’s a time to reflect and take a good look in the mirror. With so many senseless shootings lately, we must start looking at the causes for these tragedies. It’s something symptomatic within our culture. Two good places to start are gun control and mental illness. It’s time we stop sweeping these issues under the rug and face them head on…..

The tribes of the Great Sioux Nation have launched an online bid to raise $9 million (£5.63 million) by 30 November (12), so elders can purchase almost 2,000 acres (800 hectares) of land in the Black Hills.
Property owners Leonard and Margaret Reynolds agreed to cancel a public auction to offload the area, known to the tribes as Pe’ Sla (Old Baldy), earlier this year (12), after group leaders voiced their fears about losing the land, which has been used for special ceremonies for years, to developers.

It seems music stars and Boeing go hand in hand these days. Just a few weeks after Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson paid a visit to the 747-8 simulator near our Renton factory, Bette Midler took a tour of Boeing South Carolina last Thursday.
Bette Midler poses with 2nd shift flight line teammates at Boeing South Carolina.
The entertainer’s tour included aft fabrication and assembly, midbody assembly and integration, final assembly and our delivery center. All along the way, Boeing South Carolina employees got the chance to say hello to the Divine Miss M and welcome her to North Charleston. I’m told she was very impressed with the site’s focus on environmental responsibility, as well as the environmental benefits of the 787 Dreamliner.
