Singer, actress and sassy gay icon Bette Midler will open a 22-city national tour in support of her new album, “It’s the Girls!,” on May 8-9 at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood.

South Florida fans should feel particularly special: Hard Rock Live is the only stop on the tour so far with two shows, and the 5,000-seat room should offer a more intimate experience than performances at some of the country’s larger arenas, including New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center and the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Tickets for the South Florida shows will go on sale 10 a.m. Dec. 8. Just in time for holiday shopping.

Every ticket purchased online (go to LiveNation.com), comes with a free copy of “It’s the Girls!,” a tribute to girl groups, from the WWII-era Andrews Sisters, to the Supremes and the Shirelles, to ’90s hit-makers TLC. The album, released by Warner Bros. Records on Tuesday, features her hit cover of TLC’s “Waterfalls.”

As Midler says of the album, on BetteMidler.com: “The experience was a thrill and the result is overwhelmingly happy, except for a couple of ballad surprises, because what’s a Bette Midler record without little Kleenex, right? Hey! It worked for Piaf! We’ve stuffed so many glorious girl groups into this album — it’s an exquisite explosion of estrogen! You’ll croon, you’ll cry, and you’ll walk away craving more.”

In a career that has launched a thousand drag queens, Midler, 68, has earned four Grammy Awards (two for “Wind Beneath My Wings“), three Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globes and seven American Comedy Awards. She also was twice nominated for a best-actress Oscar.
