Vanessa Lachey has been cast as the third lead in TV Land’s “First Wives Club” remake, joining Alyson Hannigan andMegan Hilty, Variety has learned.

The potential series, currently in the pilot phase, is a television reboot of the 1996 film that starred Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.

TV Land’s “First Wives Club” will take place in modern-day San Francisco. Like the original rom-com, the story revolves around three women (Lachey, Hannigan, Hilty) who were friends and classmates in the ’90s and reconnect after their close friend from college dies in a freak accident.

Lachey will play Sasha, a driven and successful chef in San Francisco. She has it all – a hot restaurant and a great girlfriend who she plans to marry. But when she reconnects with her old friends after the death of their college roommate, she realizes she may not be as ready to settle down as she thought.

Hannigan will play Maggie, an English professor at a university in San Francisco. Once an aspiring poet, she is a bright but frustrated woman who is struggling to put excitement back into her flagging marriage.  When one of her old college friends dies, she is galvanized to finally make changes, starting with leaving her  husband and tackling life with a renewed sense of adventure.

Hilty will play Kim, once a very successful actress who has “aged out” of Hollywood. Needy and vulnerable, she works hard at staying fit and gorgeous, still hoping for that breakout role, while doing cheesy commercials. Divorced, with an eight year old son, Kim is happy to reconnect with old friends.

“First Wives Club” is produced by Paramount TV. Rebecca Addelman penned the pilot. Exec producers are Jenny Bicks and  Karen Rosenfelt.

Lachey most recently starred in NBC’s comedy “Truth Be Told,” which was cancelled after one season. She was also a series regular on Fox’s comedy “Dads.” This project marks her third series regular role, after many TV guest spots. Before committing to acting, she hosted MTV’s former music countdown show “Total Request Live.” She is repped by UTA.
