Please come to Highbridge Park, at Edgecombe Avenue at 169th St. [Map], on September 10 at 10:00 a.m. (rain date September 17), to gather with community members in a quiet ceremony and bulb planting to remember the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in November 2001. Refreshments will be served after the plantings.
Last fall, New York Restoration Project, through a grant from the USDA Forest Service Living Memorials program, partnered with Washington Heights community organizations to plant 13 cherry trees at four sites along Edgecombe Avenue. The bulb plantings on Sept. 10 will take place at several of these sites.
