Bette Tweets: More On Gun Violence

Mister D: Miss M has been asking some direct questions in her tweets that any sane person would ask about the Colorado theater shooting…trying I would think to gain some sort of insight and perspective into the horrible massacre. However, unlike you or me, she is famous and being crucified in the right wing blogs for even posing questions. Since when did looking for solutions become unpatriotic? She’s never said anything about taking guns away or changing the laws (which I think should be changed). It’s just pretty bad when you can’t pose questions that make one think. Do we want to stay that ignorant as a nation by sweeping problems under the rug? I do know the NRA lobbyists spend millions and millions of dollars trying to influence laws in Congress while the anti-gun lobbyists barely spend 250, 000 dollars. What’s wrong with this picture?

From the New Yorker:

Not counting drive-bys, gang ambushes, and domestic homicides (and countless cases in which gunfire at parks, bars, and shopping malls pierced flesh but did not take lives), there were more than 125 fatal mass shootings in the United States during the years between the Columbine killings and the massacre at the Century 16 theater in Aurora, Colorado. Here, drawn from online archives and a list maintained by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, a random inventory of horror.

  1. I went to VT. I lived through that. I have no putty for anyone who will put a gun in their hand and go on a rampage. Maybe I’m just to human…maybe I’m a little niave….maybe I’m a little to far to the left. But why must we use criticism when someone asks a question? I thought we had the freedom of speech? Silly me…guess law school and a degree in political sicence did me no good. Let something this tragic and horrifying happen to one of them…lets hear their views then.

    1. I totally agree! And sorry you had to go through that! But it just seems natural to me to ask questions in order to make our country a better place to live. Gun owners don’t even want to question anything….why does anybody need an assualt rifle…and more than one, at that….

  2. Did you know its easier to get a gun then it is a library card? 90% of places will sell you a firearm without a background check. On April 16 2007 the day of the VT shooting the national rifile association issued a list and more then half were convicted felons or named legally insane.

    1. That is unbelievable, but I believe you! I think they should start airing these trials live to shed a light on what’s going on….maybe we as a nation would learn something from the knowledge before it gets filtered through the news….
