4 Savannah-filmed flicks to watch this summer

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Hostess City is no stranger to movies. From “Forrest Gump” to “The Legend of Bagger Vance,” it’s a well-known movie backdrop.

Here are four new films you can catch this summer featuring none other than Savannah.

One flick is out already on Amazon Video.

“The Idea of You” chronicles a whirlwind romance between 40-year-old single mom Solène (Anne Hathaway) and 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon.

According to the Savannah Regional Film Commission, it is now known as MGM’s most successful romantic comedy debut.

“The Young Wife,” which is also available for streaming, can be purchased on many of your favorite digital platforms.

The drama is told from the perspective of Celestina (Kiersey Clemons) on her “non-wedding day.” All that stands between her and her soon-to-be husband (Leon Bridges) is surviving the expectations of her family and friends.

Coming soon to theaters is “Fly Me to the Moon.”

Out on July 12, the film stars Scarlet Johansson, Channing Tatum, and Woody Harrelson.

Marketing Maven Kelly Jones (Johansson) is hired to improve NASA’s public image as the agency tackles the difficult task of putting a man on the moon.

The feel-good comedy The Fabulous Four hits theaters on July 26.

Lifelong friends (Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, and Sheryl Lee Ralph) travel to Key West, Florida, to be bridesmaids in the wedding of their college girlfriend, Marilyn (Bette Midler).

The film was shot solely in the Savannah region last year, according to the film commission.
